TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Monica uses a mixed method approach to teaching that aims towards creating versatile and well-rounded pianists. Students are taught theory, technique, sight reading, music history, ear training, chord reading and repertoire that includes (but is not limited to) classical, jazz, and pop.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE

  • Monica Wright is a mobile piano teacher, therefore the piano studio is the space in your home designated for piano study. Please do not have televisions, computers, or other distractions in close proximity to the piano study area.

  • The piano study area will need to have a piano, electronic piano, or 88 key keyboard with weighted keys as well as an appropriate piano bench (adjustable benches are highly preferred and recommended) and a space for books or any other tools (such as a metronome) needed for study.

  • Books and other learning tools must be cared for by the student. Any missing books, tools, homework, etc, must be replaced by the next week as losing them would hinder the learning progress.

  • Parents are encouraged to watch/listen during the lesson without interfering. Please keep the house/piano study area quiet and distraction free during the lesson.

Reschedule/Cancellation Policy:

  • Canceled lessons may be reimbursed (or regarded as a one lesson credit toward the next month) if notice for said lesson is given at least 24 hours in advance. If space is available, the lesson may instead be rescheduled to a different time at the discretion and availability of the teacher.

  • There is a limit of one reimbursed/credited lesson per month.

  • If the lesson is missed without any notice (if I arrive for the lesson and the student is not home), then the lesson may not be credited, reimbursed, or rescheduled. If two lessons in a month are missed in such a way, then the student becomes in danger of being terminated from the studio.
