As a self-established teacher, she lead and maintained a private studio since 2008 with students from ages 4 to 84. She is a current member of the Music Teachers Association of California, through which she is qualified to register students for the Certificate of Merit program. As a performer, she has performed at receptions and conferences by prestigious groups such as the League of Women Voters. As an accompanist, Wright has performed at several college and university conferences with Mira and the Coasters, a vocal group lead by Pam Deegan, former Vice President of Instruction at MiraCosta College. Wright has also accompanied the MiraCosta College Community Symphony Orchestra, the MiraCosta College Chamber Choir (in which she regularly lead sectionals), the California State University, Northridge (CSUN) Master Chorale, and various individual classical vocalists and instrumentalists in both live performance and professional studio recording settings.
Monica has a Bachelors of Music degree in Piano Performance from California State University, Northridge (rated among the top 25 music programs in the US by Hollywood Reporter) as well as an Associates of Music degree in Music Performance from MiraCosta College. She studied classical performance under the direction of Dr. Dmitry Rachmanov, Dr. Pei-Shan Lee, Jaeryoung Lee, and Laurie-Jeanne Lister, and has performed in masterclasses for John Perry, Vadim Monastyrski, Francois Regnat, and more. She is the recipient of the Music Teachers Association of California San Fernando Valley West Branch Piano Pedagogy Scholarship, the Dr. Robert W. Wienpahl Scholar Award, the Pauline S. Drielsma Memorial Foundation Music Scholarship, the Friend of Music Scholarship, the University Chorus Outstanding Student Award, and several other academic scholarships and awards from California State University, Northridge and MiraCosta College.
Besides the typical classical piano studies (ear training, theory, sight-reading, accompanying, chamber music, pedagogy, etc), Monica has also studied classical vocal techniques, jazz piano and improvisation, choral and orchestral conducting, jazz ear training and more. She was the Alto Section Leader of CSUN’s University Chorus, Co-Vice President of CSUN’s Women’s Chorale, and member of the Northridge Singers, CSUN’s Master Chorale, and MiraCosta College’s Chamber Choir, the latter of which participated in numerous prestigious choral festivals and competitions. Monica has performed in the opera chorus of an abridged production of Carmen and was also a percussionist and pianist of the MiraCosta College Community Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2013. Monica is currently striving to expand her musical knowledge outside of the limits of the university education into areas that are applicable to current trends.
